RollMatic door range: Three models – Different scenarios

Hörmann offers three roller garage door variants so you can match the door to your garage’s layout constraints. We often install a RollMatic if the garage space is too small for an up and over or sectional door. In fact, each one solves a different installation context.

Our installation experience

At Eastern Garage Doors, we frequently recommend the Hörmann RollMatic range where a conventional sectional or up-and-over garage door simply isn’t practical. Every installation begins with a detailed site survey, during which we assess structural dimensions, available headroom, side clearance, ceiling use and the customer’s intended use of the garage before recommending the most suitable model.

One recent installation in St Albans involved a newly constructed luxury home with a five-metre-wide garage opening. The homeowner wanted to maximise overhead storage for shelving, bicycles and seasonal equipment, making a sectional door unsuitable. Following our structural survey, we recommended the standard RollMatic because its compact rolling mechanism leaves the ceiling completely unobstructed while its patented spring-balanced system provides exceptionally smooth operation.

Since installation, the client has retained full use of the garage ceiling while benefiting from quiet operation, secure anti-lift locking and effortless access for two high-value sports cars. Projects like this demonstrate why selecting the right garage door should always be based on the building itself rather than simply choosing the most common door style.

Best for:

The RollMatic fits rectangular, chamfered, segmental‑arch and Norman‑arch openings, making it suitable for most garage entrances.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HORMANN ROLLMATIC SYSTEM

Main RollMatic benefits at a glance:

Durabelt System

Hörmann’s RollMatic uses its DuraBelt system to keep the curtain looking pristine and running quietly. As the door rolls into the barrel, this clever protective belt slides between the laths, preventing the aluminium sections from rubbing together. The result is a smoother, quieter operation with far less chance of scuffs, marks, or that familiar “lath‑on‑lath” noise – a small detail that makes the door feel noticeably more premium every day.

Patented tension spring-in-spring system

Hörmann’s patented tension spring-in-spring system keeps the RollMatic feeling light, smooth, and reassuringly safe every time it’s used. The springs are finely counterbalanced to take the weight of the curtain, so the motor doesn’t have to strain, giving you quieter operation and a longer‑lasting drive unit. Even in a power cut, the door stays perfectly balanced, meaning you can lift it easily without any sudden drops or heavy lifting. It’s a built‑in safety layer that protects your family and your door – delivering the premium, controlled movement people expect from a Hörmann product.

RollMatic standard operator

The RollMatic’s standard operator delivers beautifully smooth movement thanks to its soft start and soft stop technology, making the door noticeably quieter and gentler in everyday use. You can even operate it via your smartphone using Bluetooth, and it’s ready to integrate seamlessly with your Smart Home system.

The perfect match for your home

The RollMatic gives you plenty of design freedom, with a choice of 17 colours plus the option of Golden Oak or Rosewood in Hörmann’s premium Decograin finishes – perfect for matching your home’s style.

Secure curtain guide

Standard wind locks at the ends of each profile keep the curtain firmly in place, even in strong winds. With wind resistance up to Class  4, they stop the laths from lifting or shifting and add an extra layer of burglar resistance – giving you a door that stays secure, stable and reliable.

RollMatic T roller garage door

Best for:

The RollMatic T is a more compact solution that uses a powerful space-saving tubular operator, ideal for tight spaces above the opening. It can fit into 290 mm of headroom up to 2.3m in height.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HORMANN ROLLMATIC T SYSTEM

Main RollMatic T benefits at a glance:

Safe power cut access

During a power cut, the RollMatic T still gives you easy, reliable access to your garage. The internal emergency crank handle lets you open the door smoothly without any effort. And for homes that need outside access, Hörmann offers an optional secure, lockable external point where a crank handle can be inserted to open the door from outdoors. It’s practical peace of mind, built into every RollMatic

Unexpected obstacles – No problem

The door comes equipped with a Closing Edge Safety Device as standard, featuring an intelligent Optisense sensor built into the bottom edge. If the door encounters an obstacle, it stops instantly for complete peace of mind.

Note: RollMatic T does not use the tension-spring counterbalance system found on the standard RollMatic. The DuraBelt system can also be added as an option. The Optisensor is also standard on the RollMatic.

RollMatic OD horizontal roller garage door

Best for:

Garages with a very low lintel can benefit from the RollMatic OD which has twin rollers that guide the curtain horizontally under the ceiling on narrow aluminium rails, requiring only 60 mm of headroom.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HORMANN ROLLMATIC OD SYSTEM

Main RollMatic OD benefits at a glance:

Ideal for limited headroom space

The door closes exceptionally tight into the lintel area, achieved through a specially engineered folding roller bracket that guides the panel into an almost fully sealed position. This precision design is paired with an elastic lip seal at the lintel and high‑performance brush seals in the side booms, delivering reliable protection against driving rain. The result is a clean finish, improved insulation performance, and dependable weather resistance

High safety levels

The door is safeguarded by multiple spring assemblies an integrated catch safety device which immediately engages to prevent the door from crashing in the unlikely event of a cable tear. This built‑in protection delivers a high level of safety, reliability, and peace of mind.

Which RollMatic is right for your garage?

Although all three models share Hörmann’s renowned build quality, each has been designed to solve a different installation challenge.

If your garage has… We typically recommend… Why
Standard headroom with a rectangular opening RollMatic Offers the widest choice of features, spring-balanced operation and premium convenience.
Limited space around the opening RollMatic T The compact tubular operator keeps installation dimensions to a minimum while still providing reliable automation.
Extremely low headroom (from just 60 mm) RollMatic OD Specifically engineered for garages where other roller doors simply cannot be installed.

In our experience, selecting the right model is rarely about budget. Instead, it depends on the available installation space, how you use the garage and whether the ceiling needs to remain clear for storage, lighting or other equipment. A professional site survey will identify these constraints before any door is ordered, ensuring the finished installation performs exactly as intended.

RollMatic Operators

The RollMatic comes with its own dedicated standard operator, designed to deliver smooth, reliable opening and closing tailored specifically to the roller door format. It offers a dependable everyday experience with the convenience homeowners expect from a purpose‑built system.

For installations where a tubular motor is preferred, the RollMatic T provides a clean, compact solution. Its integrated design makes it ideal for garages with limited space around the opening or where a streamlined appearance is important.

The RollMatic OD pairs seamlessly with the ProMatic 4, delivering smoother, smarter and more reliable automated operation through precise control, quiet running and enhanced system integration.

Together, these options ensure every RollMatic door can be paired with the most suitable operator for its setting, whether the priority is simplicity, space‑saving design, or premium convenience.

BiSecur Radio System (Certified Security)

Hörmann’s bi‑directional radio system uses a high‑security, encryption protocol designed to prevent copying and unauthorised access. Its reliability has been independently tested and certified by leading security experts, including specialists at Bochum University. The entire system is fully compatible across all BiSecur operators, receivers and control elements.

Security across the RollMatic range

Every model in the RollMatic range is built around strong, anti‑lift security designed to keep the door firmly locked when closed. The RollMatic uses its own automatic operator locking, securing the curtain the moment it reaches the bottom position. The RollMatic T delivers the same peace of mind through a mechanical locking system integrated into its tubular motor. For the RollMatic OD, the ProMatic 4 provides motor‑driven automatic locking, resisting forced lifting. In short, these systems ensure each RollMatic door offers dependable, built‑in protection, with highly secure automated remote access, providing convenience everytime you need to open the door.

Colours, finishes and design options

Standard colours

The RollMatic range is available in a palette of 17 popular colours, offering everything from crisp whites and contemporary greys to deep greens, rich reds and timeless neutrals. Popular shades include Traffic White, Anthracite Grey, Jet Black, Cream, Moss Green, Steel Blue, Ruby Red, Light Ivory and the ever‑stylish Chartwell Green. This broad selection makes it easy to match your door to your home’s architecture and create a finish that feels perfectly considered.

Timber‑look finishes (Golden Oak & Rosewood)

For homeowners who want the warmth of natural timber without the maintenance, Hörmann’s Decograin timber‑look finishes recreate the authentic character of wood with long‑lasting performance. Available in the popular Golden Oak and Rosewood designs, these finishes offer realistic grain detail and a welcoming, traditional appearance while remaining weather‑resistant, colour‑stable and easy to care for. It’s the ideal choice for creating a classic, natural look that blends beautifully with traditional or heritage‑style properties.

What our customers choose

The colour trends above are based on our own residential RollMatic installations completed between January 2024 and December 2025. During this period, Jet Black proved the most popular finish, accounting for approximately 24% of customer orders, followed by Traffic White (19%), Anthracite Grey (14%) and Slate Grey (12%).

While timber-effect finishes remain a popular option for traditional properties, our installation records showed no clear preference between Golden Oak and Rosewood. Instead, homeowners generally selected whichever finish best complemented existing windows, entrance doors or timber cladding rather than the property’s construction type.

Although every project is different, these figures provide a useful snapshot of current homeowner preferences while illustrating the wide design flexibility offered by the RollMatic range.

Why trust our recommendations?

We have extensive experience installing Hörmann roller garage doors across a wide range of residential properties, from single garages to large bespoke developments. Every recommendation we make is based on a site survey and the physical constraints of the building rather than simply promoting one model over another.

The technical information on this page has been checked against current Hörmann product literature and supplemented with practical observations from our own installations, enabling us to explain not only how the products are designed but how they perform in real-world situations.

Where installation statistics are quoted, they are taken from our own completed residential projects and are intended to provide an indication of customer preferences rather than wider UK market trends.
